Sri Lankan government is doing an internal study to understand the operations of International Non-governmental organizations (INGO) and local Non-governmental organizations (NGO) in the country.
INGOs and NGOs will be regulated in the future and how they operate is currently being studied, Director General of the Media Centre for National Security Lakshman Hulugalle told Daily Mirror online.
Mr. Hulugalle added that operational mechanisms of thousands of INGO and NGOs in Sri Lanka will be studied to see if they are doing a genuine service to the community or benefiting only a particular section. The opinions of experts in this field are also being obtained and how other countries treat and regulate NGO’s will also be studied, he said.
The reports of the parliamentary select committee regarding this topic will also be referred to, Mr. Hulugalle added.
