Excellent literature on wildlife and environment education provides effective tools for teachers to make nature education easier to understand and create a dynamic impact on young minds. BNHS Conservation Education Centre (CEC) has once again facilitated the donation of wildlife books to 20 more schools and institutions. Each set includes 16 publications of BNHS costing Rs. 1,90,800 funded by Dr Mrudula Thakkar – a BNHS life member. This will help the deserving and needy students of schools and colleges and members of NGOs to learn more about wildlife and nature conservation in an interesting manner for application in daily life.
This initiative of BNHS CEC has enabled teachers and students of underprivileged schools and members of NGOs to get exposure to a range of wildlife publications. Before shortlisting the schools and NGOs, nominations were invited for institutions in Mumbai and Thane as well as other parts of India. Dr Thakkar handed over the publication sets to the representatives of these institutions.
Receiving the set of donated books, Dr C A Ponkshe from Sathaye College, Vile Parle, Mumbai said, “This is indeed a very generous gesture by BNHS, the impact of which will go a long way to spread the ripples of nature conservation and awareness.”
Ms Kinnari Patel from Action & Research for Conservation in Himalayas, Dehradun added, “This is a wonderful and unique concept that will involve students in the cause of nature conservation.”
