During the last two census of India, 1991 and 2001, Nagalan0d recorded the urban growth of 69.44 per cent, much above the national level of 21.40 per cent, according to the Rural Development Department of the State.
The urban population of Nagaland is now 3,52,821 accounting for 17.74 per cent of the total population of the State. The department also stated that urbanization in Nagaland is a skewed phenomenon as is evident in the fact that Dimapur and Kohima alone constitute 54.30 per cent (i.e. 1,91,630 persons) of the total urban population.
