Deprived of basic transport facilities, residents of Tajnagar village in Gurgaon district of Haryana have achieved something that can put the Indian bureaucracy to shame and given inspiration to other citizens for moving in the direction of a local government for effective development.
Tired of indifferent attitude of officials and local administration towards meeting their long pending demand for a railway station, the villagers decided to take the matter into their own hands. They got together and put a proposal before railway authorities to build their own railway station. The railway authorities considered their proposal and gave their approval.
Emboldened by the go-ahead, villagers collected more than Rs 20 lakhs, which were utilized to construct two platforms for a basic level station. The construction work was done under the supervision of railway authorities.
Every day a large number of villagers travel to Gurgaon, Delhi and Rewari for work and education. The new ‘halt’ station will help these 25,000 people.
