It seems Gujarat does take its reputation as the best State of India very seriously. Keeping its lead in industrial, economic and social growth intact, Gujarat has now focussed its attention on encouraging production of renewable energy. The Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) has become the first State Regulatory Commission in the country to issue a tariff order on solar energy. It has issued its first tariff order for procurement of power by distribution licensees from solar energy generators (solar photovoltaic and solar thermal projects).
According to GEAC announcement, the tariff for energy from solar photovoltaic generators is Rs 15 per unit and for solar thermal Rs 11 per unit for the initial 12 years, and Rs 5 and Rs 4 per unit from 13th year onwards respectively. The tariff shall be applicable to new solar power projects to be commissioned in Gujarat during next two years.
