All intellectual discourses need good arguments, and arguments without articulation fail to impress. But not every language makes equal impression. Due to colonial hangover and soft power of USA, English still rules in India. So, any one who can argue in English is considered an ‘intellectual’.
With the flourishing of English-medium schools and internet, there is an over supply of such ‘intellectuals by default’, and they enjoy excessive clout over public opinion, government policy and business planning. But can a vastly diversified India find its correct course by ignoring and ridiculing the views and feelings of masses? Can we achieve inclusive development without appreciating inclusive opinion? Something for intellectuals to ponder...
