Many western economists and feminists want to quantify the ‘unpaid household work’ being done by women and put a price tag to it! But is it sensible to compare the role of a dotting mother to an indifferent maid or nanny in terms of payment? How do we decide the price of bringing up own children or preparing delicious food for the loving family? How much money should be charged by a mother for putting the baby to sleep or for remaining awake at night when she is not well? And what will be the current rate for providing emotional support and security to the family members?
A homemaker’s role should remain priceless. Even in a materialistic world!
